On June 11, 2025, the second TwinAIR webinar, titled “Invisible Threats, Visible Impact: Health Insights from TwinAIR,” brought together an engaged audience of 50 participants students, young researchers, and stakeholders for a two-hour session.

This online event provided a platform for exploring how indoor air quality (IAQ) affects human health and how the TwinAIR Project is addressing these challenges through interdisciplinary research.

This webinar  delved into ongoing health studies within the TwinAIR Project, offering insights into how exposure to indoor pollutants affects human wellbeing. Presenters showcased how TwinAIR is integrating health research into its broader framework, emphasizing real-life case studies and scientific findings that reveal the often-hidden effects of poor indoor air quality.

The session began with Natalie Mueller (ISGlobal) presenting an overview of the TwinAIR health study, offering insights into how real-world indoor environments are being analyzed to assess the relationship between indoor air exposure and wellbeing.

Athanasia Palaiologou (University of Patras) followed with a presentation focused on modeling risk and health outcomes, showcasing case studies that highlighted the utility of integrated data approaches.

Next, Cecilia Cabrera (IGTP) introduced in vitro and ex vivo methods for evaluating the toxicity of indoor air pollutants, emphasizing the biological mechanisms through which pollutants can affect human health.

After a brief coffee break, the program resumed with Aggelina Chatziantoniou and Kalypso Angeliki Koukouvini (University of Patras) discussing respiratory pathogens found in indoor air and their implications for public health. This was followed by Laura Mondejar (ISGlobal), who shared preliminary results from TwinAIR’s microbiome study, exploring the role of microbial communities in indoor environments.

Dr. Antonis Papamanolis (University of Patras) presented on how health data is being integrated with environmental measurements across TwinAIR pilot sites to map potential health impacts.

Dr. Sofya Pozdniakova (ISGlobal) concluded the presentation segment by examining airborne microbial diversity and its significance for indoor air quality.

Furthermore, the session featured an interactive Q&A, allowing participants to engage directly with researchers and deepen their understanding of the critical link between environmental conditions and public health.
